I think there are too many variables to consider square foot pricing. Every job is different. For example, one would have to take into consideration the Category water loss with the Class. That in itself takes up to 9 different price configurations (Class 4 is too unique to do square foot pricing). Then you would have to add into the basic equipment equation not only the square footage, but how many offsets and closets in the structure. How much furniture has to be moved? Is it put into another area of the structure or taken off site? How many layers of flooring/walls are there?
I could definitely see the advantage of square foot pricing, however. It would make my job a whole lot easier.

Get ready, square foot pricing is coming soon. The idea of time and material has vanished from the contracting landscape centuries ago, and somehow it has survived here, but not for much longer.

Time and material guarantees the least efficient contractors with the least productive equipment survive and prosper.

I was onced opposed to square foot pricing, but now I am all for it. I think that it's the only thing that will get all of the carpet cleaners and other under skilled and unequipped people out of the business.

We currently work with a few ins. companies that we use sf pricing. Mostly, the sf pricing is for the drying equipment only and other line items like extraction, contents, cleaning etc. all all separate. One company has sf pricing for the entire emergency work depending on severity of tear out.

Sq Ft pricing is exactly why we like xactimate, which insurance typically likes too.

@craig. agreed, get the underskilled/equipped out, then again, after a job they do, we usually get the mold call Very Happy
